Any addiction can help overcome feelings of isolation and allow for feelings of closeness and warmth. To begin with, it feels as if it helps ease anxiety, insomnia or depression. Over time, this relief becomes a hindrance to life itself.
Commonly your relationships suffer. ashamed and guilty over your behaviour, finding a way back to a manageable life requires support. Counselling is a place to come for non judgemental support. In therapy with me, we look beyond the addiction. In some cases, the addiction may not even be part of our conversations. Over time, triggers are easier to resist and you feel differently about yourself in the world.
People suffer in silence, sometimes because they are unwilling to admit the problem to themselves, at others times because of the social stigma associated with addictive behaviour. We strongly urge you not to let this happen to you. Attending therapy or counselling sessions can give you specialist help to overcome your problem behaviours and lead a more fulfilling life. It can take time to realise a dependency to alcohol or anything else that we become addicted to. Suddenly stopping at any time is difficult. You might feel lonely and blame yourself.
Coming from personal experience, I can guide you along the path of recovery. Whether it's helping with issues that are coming up after removing the addictive behaviour or substance, or strategies to help you manage or reduce, I understand what you are going through, as I have and continue to walk this path of recovery.
